our team asks the winger to hold width sometimes. the private coach says they should always come inside to get more touches. player now thinks one coach must be wrong. how would you deal with this without criticising the other coach?

Why are Verified Coach details private?
Do not ask the player to decide which coach is correct. The two instructions may be based on different contexts. Holding width can stretch the team on matchday, while coming inside may give the player more touches in a private technical session. Speak with the player and parent first. Clarify the team principle and explain that the correct movement depends on the football picture. With permission, a short direct conversation between the coaches can help. It should be about aligning language and understanding each environment, not proving one person wrong. Avoid criticising the private coach in front of the child. A useful message is: sometimes width helps the team, and sometimes moving inside is the right decision. Your job is to recognise which picture you are in. That returns ownership to the player without leaving them caught between adults. If the player and parent agree, a brief direct conversation between the two coaches can help. Keep it specific: what the team asks in certain pictures, what the private session is trying to develop and which shared language could reduce confusion. That is coordination around the child, not one coach supervising the other.

would you include the player in that conversation between coaches or keep it adult to adult first? I dont want them feeling like everyone is discussing them behind closed doors.

I would usually align the adults briefly first, then bring the player into the practical part. The player should hear the shared language and understand what each environment is trying to develop. They do not need to sit through a debate between coaches, but they should not feel decisions are being made around them without explanation.
