Does every U7 mistake need a coaching point?

I watched one of our coaches give feedback after almost every six-minute game and by the fourth one the kids were barely listening. I am starting to think a lot of the value in 3v3 is that they get another game quickly and have another go. How much would you actually say between games?

No. Most mistakes need another chance, not another speech. One of the big strengths of 3v3 is that the same player may get another similar moment very quickly. A poor first touch can be followed by another first touch. A bad pass can be followed by another decision. I’d intervene when there is something important the child is unlikely to solve alone, a safety issue, or a repeated picture you want the whole group to notice. Otherwise, save it. You can also keep notes for training. If you see the same receiving problem across the morning, that might become Tuesday’s practice instead of Saturday’s fourth mini-team-talk. The coach does not have to prove they noticed the mistake by commenting on it.

I save most technical stuff for training. Matchday gives me the evidence, not necessarily the time to fix it.

Exactly. Coaches sometimes treat noticing a problem and immediately fixing a problem as the same job.

If you have to speak, I think one question is better than three corrections. 'What kept happening when we lost it?' Then see what they noticed.

I used to give one point after every game. Now sometimes I just say 'drink, same again' and the players are better for it.

No. Another chance is feedback too.
