How much should the U7 coach actually watch instead of coach?

I have found myself noticing loads more since the games got smaller because every action is obvious. The problem is I then want to fix all of it. Poor first touch, wrong choice, nobody moving, all three chasing. Are people deliberately choosing one thing to watch for the whole morning and ignoring the rest?

That is a good discipline for the coach. You will see ten things in every six-minute game. The players cannot use ten bits of feedback. I would pick one or two themes for yourself before the morning starts. Maybe today you are watching how they react when they lose it, or whether they create any space away from the ball. That does not mean you ignore everything else; it just stops every mistake becoming your next intervention. A lot of your notes can stay in your head and shape Tuesday’s training rather than being delivered on Saturday. Sometimes the best response to a poor first touch is simply letting the player have another first touch 30 seconds later. 3v3 creates repetition. Coaches do not need to fill every repetition with words.

If the next game starts in 60 seconds, the feedback has to earn those 60 seconds.

I write two notes on my phone after each round. If something keeps appearing, it becomes training. Much better than stopping the next game to fix it.

The urge to prove we are coaching is strong. Sometimes silence feels like doing nothing even when the kids are solving loads.

I pick one thing for myself to watch. Last weekend it was reaction after losing it. I still saw everything else, I just did not comment on everything else.
