The Coaches' Room

Behind The Coaches' Room

Built from football.
Built with technology.
Built for the wider football community.

Hi, I'm Ben, the founder of The Coaches' Room.

My background has always crossed two quite different worlds: technology and football.

I've spent years working with technology while also coaching within grassroots and development football, completing multiple UEFA coaching courses along the way.

The Coaches' Room came from bringing those two experiences together.

But this isn't a website about me, my coaching philosophy or what I think the answer should be.

It's a platform designed to give people involved in football access to a much wider range of experience.

I created The Coaches' Room, but I never wanted it to become 'my' football website. The whole point is that different coaches see the game differently — and that's a good thing.

The Starting Point

Where the idea came from

One of the most valuable parts of going through UEFA coaching courses wasn't simply the course material.

It was the conversations.

Talking through situations with other coaches. Hearing how somebody else might approach the same problem. Challenging your own thinking. Asking questions without feeling that you should already know the answer.

Those conversations can be incredibly valuable.

The problem is that once you leave that environment, access to that kind of network can become much harder.

And for players, parents, referees, volunteers, new coaches and people working within grassroots clubs, that network may never have existed in the first place.

That was the starting point for The Coaches' Room.

Some of the biggest things I've taken from UEFA courses have come from conversations with other coaches. I wanted to create somewhere where those conversations didn't have to stop when the course finished.

Why different voices matter

One question.
Different experiences.

Football doesn't always have one answer.

Ask three experienced coaches the same question and you may get three different approaches.

One may have spent years coaching foundation-phase players.

Another may work predominantly in 11v11 football.

Another may specialise in goalkeeping, player development, safeguarding, refereeing or another area of the game.

Their experiences shape their answers.

The Coaches' Room is designed to make that variety a strength rather than trying to remove it.

Different backgrounds

Coaches bring different experiences from across the game.

Different age groups

What works with one group may not work with another.

Different environments

Grassroots, development and performance football all create different challenges.

Different perspectives

Good discussion does not require everyone to agree.

I don't want people visiting The Coaches' Room to be told what they should think. I want them to hear from experienced people, understand different approaches and decide what works for their own environment.

Football + Technology

Technology should make good football conversations easier to access.

My technology background gave me the opportunity to turn the idea into an actual platform.

The aim was never to use technology to replace coaches.

It was to use technology to make experienced people and useful conversations easier to reach.

Someone involved in football has a question. They ask it. The question is reviewed. It reaches coaches with relevant experience. And the resulting answer can become useful not only to the person who asked it, but potentially to many other people facing the same situation.

Answer

Community discussion

Technology should make it easier to reach good people and good information. It shouldn't replace the experience of the people who have actually been out there coaching.

I built the platform.
The coaches make it valuable.

The Coaches' Room is deliberately built around people.

Questions can come from coaches, players, parents, referees, club officials and others involved in football.

But the football answers come from Verified Coaches.

As the platform grows, so does the range of backgrounds, qualifications, age groups, formats and experiences represented within it.

That matters.

Because the ambition isn't to create one enormous library containing one version of the truth.

It's to create a community where useful football conversations can happen openly.

The ambition isn't for everyone to agree. It's for people to have access to experienced coaches who can explain why they see something the way they do.

My role today

Still coaching. Still building.

I'm still involved in youth football myself, which keeps me close to the questions and challenges people encounter every week.

But my role within The Coaches' Room is primarily to keep building the platform around the people using it.

Improving how questions are asked. Helping the right questions reach the right coaches. Growing the Verified Coach community. Making useful discussions easier to discover. And continuing to develop a platform that genuinely helps people involved in football.

It isn't about putting my answer at the top.

Often, I'm far more interested in seeing what other coaches think.

If The Coaches' Room works properly, people shouldn't come here because they want my answer. They should come because they know there will be experienced coaches here worth listening to.
