we both end up watching the ball, both talk at half time and neither properly manages subs or individual feedback. whats a realistic split that still lets both coaches see the game?

Why are Verified Coach details private?
Give each coach a primary responsibility before the match. One can watch the team picture, including shape, tempo and repeated tactical problems. The other can manage substitutions, warm-ups and short individual conversations with players leaving or entering. At half-time, one coach leads. The other adds one observation only if it genuinely improves the message. You can rotate those roles between matches so both coaches continue developing their wider view. The coach managing substitutes still watches the game, but through a different question: who needs a change, what does the incoming player need and how are the waiting players staying involved? The tactical coach should not ignore individuals either. The value comes from knowing who is accountable for each job, so both adults do not follow the ball while the bench, timing and player support disappear. Rotate the lead responsibilities across blocks of three or four matches rather than changing every week. That gives each coach enough repetition to improve the role and keeps the process consistent for players. Both coaches should still share a short review afterwards so neither loses sight of the whole game.
