Two development centres have invited my child in — is doing both a bad idea?

My U9 has been invited to train with two different development centres on different evenings. Neither has asked for exclusivity and he wants to do both because, in his words, 'it's more football'. I'm less worried about which one is better and more about whether bouncing between two extra environments alongside his team could become confusing or simply too much. Has anyone got a sensible way of weighing that up?

Honestly, if he’s got the energy, let him play. At nine years old, football is mostly about getting as many touches on the ball as possible. My only concern would be burnout, but if he’s asking for more, he’s clearly enjoying it. Watch him for a few weeks—if he’s still bright-eyed at training and eating his dinner afterwards, he’s fine. If he starts looking sluggish or grumpy, pull back to one centre. Don’t overthink the 'confusing' side of it; kids are smarter than we give them credit for. They can handle two different coaches telling them slightly different things just fine. Focus on whether he’s actually getting to play, rather than just standing in lines waiting for a turn. If both centres have him in small-sided games, he’s getting exactly what he needs.

I would look at the whole week rather than deciding whether two centres is automatically too much. We had a period where the extra football itself was fine, but the travel, late finishes and having no free evening started showing up at the weekend. I would also watch whether he is still excited to go to both rather than feeling he has to because he was invited. Different coaching messages never bothered my child as much as I expected. Tiredness did. If he is sleeping well, still enjoying his team and not dragging himself to sessions, I would be comfortable trying both and reviewing it after a few weeks.
