Subs are going on cold and needing five minutes to settle

Weve got four subs most weeks. They stay involved watching but physically theyre going from standing still to a fast 9v9 game. Do people have a simple warm-up routine during the match, and who manages it if there is only one coach?

Why are Verified Coach details private?
A short, repeatable routine works better than asking substitutes to invent their own warm-up. Five minutes before the planned change, they can complete light movement, side steps, two or three short accelerations and some ball contacts with another substitute. The area must be safe, visible to the coach and away from active play. If there is only one coach, make the routine familiar in training and nominate one substitute to begin it when the coach gives the signal. That player is organising the sequence, not supervising safety. Keep it brief enough that substitutes remain connected to the match. The coach should still confirm when they start and when they stop. The aim is to raise temperature, rehearse a few football movements and let the player enter mentally ready, without turning the touchline into another training session. The coach remains responsible for the area and the timing. The nominated substitute can start the familiar sequence, but they are not supervising safety. Choose a fixed visible space before kick-off, check it is clear and give a clear start signal. If the coach cannot see the area properly, simplify the routine or wait for a safe stoppage.
