I like being the reliable one but I'm getting moved position every week

I'm usually the player the manager moves when someone is missing because he knows I'll just get on with it. I don't want to make it about me, but I also feel like I'm never getting a run in one position. Is it reasonable to ask for a more settled role when being flexible is probably why I keep playing?

Yes, it is reasonable to ask. Flexibility is valuable, but it should not mean you never get a chance to develop a clear role. Frame the conversation around development rather than dissatisfaction. You could say that you are happy to continue helping the team in different positions, but you would like to understand where the manager sees your strongest long-term role and whether you can get a run there when the squad allows it. That gives the manager room to explain why you are being moved. He may genuinely see your versatility as one of your biggest strengths, or he may not realise the constant changes are affecting you. I would avoid asking for a guarantee. Ask for clarity and a chance to build some continuity. You can remain the reliable player while still taking some ownership of your own development.

I'd probably let it bother me for weeks then eventually ask badly 😂. Better to have the conversation while you're calm rather than after getting moved again on matchday.

Versatility is valuable, but if you're centre-back one week and full-back the next there has to be some acknowledgement that your reference points keep changing. I'd want to know which role I'm meant to be improving most.

I'd ask. Doesn't have to be dramatic. Something like 'where do you actually see me long term?' gives you an answer without saying you refuse to fill in.

100%. Managers sometimes assume the reliable player is happy because they never complain. You can be easy to work with and still have a preference.

I'm the opposite problem — I want more minutes, so I'd probably take being moved anywhere 😅. But I can see how after a while being 'the useful one' might stop you actually developing one role.

And minutes in different positions are still useful. I think the issue is whether there's any direction behind it. 'You're our utility player' is at least clearer than never knowing why you're moved.
