How do we use parent assistant referees without offside becoming an argument?

League need club person with flag many weeks. Parent try best but coaches and spectators question every close decision. What briefing and boundaries make this fair for volunteer and players?

Why are Verified Coach details private?
The referee should brief the club assistant referees before kick-off. The volunteer's job is to stay level with the second-last defender, signal what they see and let the referee make the final decision. They should not debate with coaches or spectators. The club should make one boundary clear: complaints are directed through the team officials at an appropriate time, never at the parent holding the flag. Players must continue until the referee stops play. If a coach has a genuine concern, they can speak respectfully to the referee at half-time or after the match. The referee can then clarify positioning or what support they need from the assistant. A volunteer will make some difficult decisions. Protecting them from touchline pressure is essential if clubs want people to keep helping matches take place. The team officials should manage their own spectators and the referee manages the match. The assistant should focus on position and signals, not answer complaints. If behaviour continues, the referee can stop play and ask the team official to deal with it. The club should support the volunteer afterwards.
