The back-pass rule still confuses our players

I’d teach the rule with a few very clear examples. The goalkeeper cannot handle the ball after a teammate has deliberately kicked it to them. That is different from every ball that happens to travel backwards. A header, an accidental deflection or a ball played by an opponent is a different situation. I would show the players two or three scenarios in training and ask whether the keeper can use their hands. Then move on. They do not need a long laws lesson. The bigger matchday habit is that players should keep playing until the official makes the decision rather than stopping because somebody shouts “back-pass”. If there is ever doubt in a particular competition, check the competition rules and the current Laws. Teach the principle clearly enough that the players can make the decision themselves.
