Should parents send match clips to the coach?

A few parents film individual moments and send them to the coach afterwards with comments about what their child did well or should improve. It can be useful, but I can also see it becoming another stream of analysis the coach has not asked for. Where would you draw the line at U11?

Why don't we show coach names?
I would set a clear boundary. If the coach wants clips for a particular reason, they can ask for them. Otherwise, parents sending individual footage plus their own analysis can create a lot of extra noise around one child’s game. It can also put the coach in a difficult position if every family expects a response. I would tell parents that useful observations are welcome through the normal feedback process, but the coach is not running a weekly video service from parent submissions. If a clip captures something genuinely important, fine. It does not need commentary attached to it. At U11, children already receive plenty of football information. The adults should be careful that filming, reviewing and messaging do not make every match feel like evidence being collected.

My bigger worry is the child knowing every mistake might be clipped and sent to the coach. That can change how free they feel in the game.

Yes. Once my daughter knew a camera was following her she played safer for a while, and nobody had even criticised the footage.

We have a simple rule: clips are welcome if requested, but no expectation of feedback by message. That has stopped it becoming another coaching channel.

The no-response expectation is important. A clip can be useful without creating another conversation the coach has to manage at 10pm.

I see the issue, but what if the coach does not film matches and a parent has a genuinely useful clip? Feels odd to ban information just because it came from a phone.

I would send it only after asking: 'I caught the moment we spoke about, useful if I send it?' That keeps the coach in control of whether they want it.

I would not want parents sending clips unless the coach has asked. Eleven families each sending 'just one useful moment' becomes a part-time editing job.

Exactly. It also creates an equality issue because some parents film everything and others never do. The coach ends up with far more evidence about certain children.
