Portable goals look secure but who is actually responsible for checking them?

I would make a named pre-session check part of the routine. The FA’s goalpost safety guidance is clear that portable goals must be properly anchored or weighted and secured in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. A quick shake is not a substitute for knowing they are set up correctly. I’d include goals within a wider pitch check: surface, obvious hazards, access, nets, surrounding equipment and anything that has changed since the last team used the area. If different teams move the goals, that makes the check more important, not less. The person running the session should know the playing area is safe before children start using it, even if the club or facility has its own inspection regime as well. If the goal cannot be secured properly, do not use it. This is one of those areas where “it looked fine last week” is not enough.
