Only four players turn up – is that still worth a session?

We had four available at late notice and nearly cancelled. In the end we played loads of 1v1 and 2v2 and they probably had more touches than usual. Would you always run it with four if you have the space and coach, or are there times the number is just too low?

Why don't we show coach names?
Four can still be a brilliant session. You have 1v1, 2v1, 2v2 and loads of chances for each child to be involved. In some ways the low number makes coaching easier because nobody can hide and there is very little waiting. I would only cancel if there is a practical reason such as the space, staffing or safety making it unworkable. Do not try to recreate a 5v5 session with four players. Use the number you actually have. You can get plenty of work around dribbling, defending, support, finishing and transition in very small games. At U8, a session with four players touching the ball constantly can be more valuable than a session with twelve players waiting in queues.
