I would develop the other distributions without taking the kick away. If the kick is good, it is a real weapon. The problem is only that it has become the automatic answer. In training, start some goalkeeper possessions where the nearest teammate is free, some where the middle is blocked and some where space is higher up. Ask the keeper what they saw. Throws and rolls can start attacks quickly and accurately. Kicks can exploit space further away. I would not say “look short first” every time because that can just replace one habit with another. At U11, the goalkeeper should be building a menu of options. The coaching question is: can they recognise which distribution suits the picture, rather than repeating the action they are most confident executing?
