How do you get training moving quickly from the first minute?

Ours can lose the first ten minutes to drinks, chatting, late arrivals and me explaining the session. I do not want a military start, but I also hate wasting a chunk of the hour. What routines actually help an U10 group get into football quickly?

Why don't we show coach names?
I’d have football available before I have explanations available. Set up one simple arrival game or ball activity that players can join as they come in. It should work with four players, six players or ten players, so you are not waiting for the full group. Then when enough are there, bring them in for a very short introduction and move straight on. I would also put drinks and equipment in the same place every week. Little routines save more time than a louder whistle. Late arrivals can join without you restarting the whole session. The first ten minutes set the feel of training. I want players arriving and thinking “I can play immediately,” not “I need to wait for the coach to explain what happens tonight.” Simple organisation is usually the answer, not stricter behaviour.
