How do you coach playing against a low block in 9v9?

Most sessions we create pressure and transitions. At the weekend one team put everyone behind the ball and our players had no idea how to move them. We shot from far away or crossed. What small game can teach patience and moving defenders without a 20-minute tactical talk?

Why don't we show coach names?
Against a low block, I’d coach moving the opposition rather than telling the players to be more patient. Use a directional game where the defending team protects a compact central area. The attacking team can score normally, but give them enough width and support behind the ball to recycle possession. Then ask: “What makes a defender leave the space they want to protect?” That might be switching the ball, an overlap, a player receiving between lines or somebody carrying at the block. I would avoid putting a minimum pass count on it. That can create slow possession for its own sake. At U13, the useful lesson is that not every defence can be attacked at full speed. Sometimes you move them first, then exploit the gap. Patience should still have purpose. The ball is moving because you are trying to change the defensive picture.
