Free kicks at U10 — shoot or play?

I would let them shoot sometimes. If a player genuinely thinks they can score, I do not want a rule that says every free kick has to become a clever routine. What I would add is another question: “What else is on?” A quick pass might create a 2v1 while the opposition is still organising. A short touch might improve the angle. A direct shot might still be the best choice. In training, give them free kicks from different areas and let the players decide rather than rehearsing one answer. Then ask why they chose it. At U10 the restart can be another decision-making moment. The goal is not shoot or pass. It is seeing the picture before everybody else is ready and choosing the option that gives you the best chance.
