Do U18 players still need position-specific extras or should the team session be enough?

A few are asking for extra finishing, crossing or centre-back work because they feel the team sessions are too broad. I like the ownership, but I do not want them adding random volume. How would you structure position-specific work at this age?

Why don't we show coach names?
I’d support position-specific extras if they are targeted and controlled. At U18, the team session cannot give every player enough repetition of every specialist action. A striker may benefit from a short finishing block. A centre-back may need work on first contact or passing range. A full-back might want repeated crossing under realistic pressure. Keep the volume modest and connect it to an identified need. Ten or fifteen quality minutes can be more useful than another hour of random work. I’d also integrate some extras into the main session where possible so players are not always adding workload afterwards. The important thing is that the player and coach agree the purpose. Ownership is positive, but more training is not automatically better development. At U18, I want players learning how to use additional practice intelligently: specific target, appropriate volume, feedback, then review whether it is changing the match behaviour.
